- Steel Derivatives – Co-founder of the consultancy that developed the contract architecture for >90% of the daily volume in global ferrous derivatives
With an MBA from the University of Oxford and a published author in steel risk, John leads Boomer’s Commercial, Risk and Finance franchises.
On the finance / risk side, John is joined by Boomer’s team of European finance executives, financial modelers, and risk experts, whose core deliverables are our trade / project finance solutions, and risk modelling

They are complemented by an Islamic finance expert. Together they craft traditional asset-backed / asset-based lending structures to suit the needs of clients operating in both conventional and Islamic banking regimes.
Supporting the bankers are Boomer’s quant guys, led by a husband and wife team in Warsaw, Poland. Drawn from the banking and insurance sectors, they offer a combined 50+ years of quant / analytical / modelling experience.
On the physical metals side, Boomer’s (i) Operations and (ii) Sales, Sourcing & Logistics verticals are resourced by a suite senior executives across Europe, Middle East, and Asia, each with 20-35 years expertise in their respective fields

The team also focuses on:
- Optimisation of value in use metrics using different Fe input (sinter, pellet, lump) blends of different grades (Fe, gangue etc) in combination with different reductants
- Scrap processing, yard design, surveys, and value in use operations in EAFs (with Ore Based Metallics (Pig iron, C-DRI, HBI)) and BOFs (with hot metal)
- Melting and Casting
- Through collaboration with senior engineering firms, Boomer fulfils mandates on FEED studies, plant and process optimization, and KTAs (Knowledge Transfer Agreements)
As an extension to our strategy work and/or independently, we act as indentors on specific flows / to specific offtakers, most commonly with value adding price risk management packages providing long term surety platforms to those flows, so Buyer and Seller can concentrate with us on optimizing logistics and operations, rather than worrying about price discovery and subsequent price movements.
